Living Room Transformation – Part 2

So second part of our living room was the painting… Yes, because the white was overbearing!! And quite frankly, too white!! With this room I have a vision (it still is a vision, but it’s getting there!). We knew what we were working towards… with a fireplace, we would love that to be the focal point of our living room, because the layout that we still used here did not work for us!! It is such a long and uncomfortable room…

So we started with our fireplace in Part 1…

And now we head over to the painting!! Before anyone says anything, no we do not use drop cloths…. yes, sometimes we get a splatter or two on the ground, but those clean up easily!! So here are our before shots (you can still see the horrible mantelpiece here!!

We decided on classic burgundy!! Many many many people dislike this colour!! (I know more people who dislikes this colour, than likes this colour…. never mind using it for a wall colour!) But, we have a plan….. I must admit, that after the first coat we were petrified… it came out pink!! Really pink!!Xandre Verkes - Livingroom paint-5 Xandre Verkes - Livingroom paint-6 Xandre Verkes - Livingroom paint-3 Xandre Verkes - Livingroom paint-4 Finally after 3 coats, we were satisfied with the colour!! It matched what we had brought… but it was a very nervous couple of hours!! And 3 layers are no jokes… we were so tired after the first wall, that we “rested” for like 4 weeks before painting the other wall… Here is our ‘closer-to-finished’ living room!!

We left one wall unpainted… our “focal” wall… And I’ll show more on this in the next post!! This focal wall is definitely one of our favourite renos that we have done so far!!

Here Stef is removing our mantelpiece… getting it ready for our DIY that I shared in the previous post!! 🙂

  2. Woweeeeeeee!! That looks stunning. I haven’t gone that dark yet because I’m too chicken, but you will be my inspiration. I may have to stay a little lighter though because my rooms are really tiny :(.

    1. I get that, I don’t think we would’ve gone with this colour if the room was much smaller!! Fortunately, it is huge and gets a lot of natural light!! 🙂
